QRFN is supporting Fundacion Proyecto Tití in expanding their "Los Titíes de San Juan" forest reserve in northern Colombia by acquiring the neighboring 400-hectare Santa Helena property. This acquisition will nearly double the size of the reserve, restoring cattle pastures into protected tropical dry forest, one of Colombia's most endangered ecosystems with less than 8% remaining. This expanded reserve will secure critical habitat for the Critically Endangered cotton-top tamarin, the Critically Endangered Dahl’s toad-headed turtle (Mesoclemmys dahli), and the Endangered Colombian black spider monkey (Ateles fusciceps ssp. rufiventris). Additionally, the reserve supports a diverse array of flora and fauna, including 44 mammal species, 47 reptile species, 20 amphibian species, and 212 bird species. This project is part of a broader effort to protect and restore tropical dry forests in Colombia, contributing to the long-term conservation of biodiversity and the provision of vital ecosystem services to local communities.
