Securing the homes of endangered species is essential to their survival—and creating protected areas is one of the most proven tools in conservation.

The Quick Response Fund for Nature (QRFN) is a rapid response fund that helps local conservation organizations around the world secure and protect critical sites for rare and threatened species. QRFN focuses on Conservation Imperatives Sites—the last unprotected sites that harbor rare, range-restricted, and threatened species, comprising just 1.2% of the terrestrial surface. By prioritizing these irreplaceable habitats, QRFN ensures funding goes where it can have the greatest impact on preventing extinction.

Since 2015, QRFN has awarded over $2 million in grants and leveraged more than $20 million in co-funding to protect over 90,000 acres (36,500 hectares) of critical habitat. Our Expert Advisory Panel of over 60 top global biodiversity specialists reviews projects on an all-volunteer basis, ensuring that all donations go directly to creating or expanding protected areas.

By combining fast, flexible funding, scientific expertise, and local partnerships, QRFN fills a unique gap in conservation finance—mobilizing resources quickly to secure globally significant sites before they are lost. Through these efforts, QRFN contributes directly to global goals, including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, helping halt and reverse nature loss.
